Xenia Antoniou, PhD

Post-doc

Of Greek nationality, Xenia carried out her BSc/MSc studies in London, UK. Thereafter she did her PhD at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Her research interests focus on the elucidation of signalling pathways with a key role in neuroprotection.

Marco Feligioni

Post-doc

Marco has obtained his Pharmacology and Toxicology PhD in 2005 at University of Genova after a period spent at the Anatomy Department of Bristol University, UK. He worked then as Research Assistant at Bristol University for almost three years and spent one year as Post Doc at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. He is interested in synaptic plasticity and the role of glutamate receptors in this process. Moreover is interested in pre and post-synaptic protein SUMOylation. His work is now focused on the characterization of the possible role of SUMO in the neuronal death and a possible interaction between SUMO and the JNKs pathway.

Alessio Colombo

Experienced Researcher

Alessio obtained his BSc (Biotechnology) in 2003 at the Department of Structural and Functional Biology (DBSF), University of Insubria, Varese, Italy. Currently he is enrolled to the Advanced School for Applied Pharmacology (SAFA) at the Mario Negri Institute . His research interests are: Alzheimer’s Disease, Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP), Mitogen Activated Protein Kinases (MAPK), Exitotoxicity, Cell Cycle regulation.

Mariaelena Repici

Post-Doc

Mariaelena started her career in Neuroscience as a PhD student in the Department of Anatomy, Pharmacology and Forensic Medicine, University of Torino, Italy. In 2004 she moved to Switzerland, where she worked as Post-Doc in Dr. Tiziana Borsello group (DBCM, University of Lausanne) for 2 years. In January 2007 she moved to Paris, where she is actually working in the UMR7102, Neurobiologie des Processus Adaptatifs (CNRS and Univ P. M. Curie), under the supervision of Dr. Isabelle Dusart in the UMR 7102. Her scientific interests focus on understanding how MAP kinases signaling pathways modulate neuronal death.

Cristina Ploia

Experienced Researcher

Cristina did her BSc in Biology at University of Milan, Italy. She later obtained an MSc in Pharmacological Research at Neuroscience Department, Laboratory of Neurodegenerative Disorders, Cellular Death and Neuroprotection Unit, at “Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri”, Milan, Italy. Currently a fellow at the Neurocience Department, where she is interested in the study of molecular pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s Disease. She is involved in the characterization of neuronal SUMOylation in APP processing focusing on the possible link between SUMO and the JNK pathway in neuronal cells in an AD model.

Alessandra Sclip

Ph.D Student

Alessandra obtained the BSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies at the University of Milan in 2007. She is currently doing her PhD within the PhD program of The “Open University”. Her research interests are focused on the study of amyloid beta oligomers effect on MAPKs pathways and their contribution to the genesis of synaptopathies.

Daniele Cardinetti

Student

Daniele is doing his specialisation in Pharmaco-Genomics at the Departement of Industrial Biotechnologies (Bicocca, University of Milan). His thesis focuses on the role of MAPKs inhibitors in the prevention of synaptotoxicity.

Alice Perego

Student

Alice is a student at the Chemical and Pharmacological Technologies Department at the University of Milan. At present she is doing her thesis on the role of protein SUMOylation in excitotoxicity.
